Anti-influencer community, tainted desires, and escaping the matrix...

Welcome to Friday's Newsletter!

(Whether an attempt to make someone’s day better or worse, please do me a favor & share this newsletter!) 😝

things i’m thinking about this week

  • i — your escape begins when you decide it does…

    • There are entire industries devoting countless fortunes to their mission → convincing you that you have to look a certain way, live in a certain place, drive a certain car, wear certain clothes, and have a certain career or bank balance in order to be successful.

The truth is that your escape can begin the instant you decide that you are “escaping the matrix.” Your version of the story doesn’t have to match ANYONE ELSE’S narrative…You and you alone get to choose what success is. You don’t have to wait years, “put in the time,” or wait for an arbitrary date or circumstance in the future…the second you settle on the version of YOURSELF you want to be rather than the imitation of someone else, you can begin your escape.

      What are you waiting for?

  • ii — your favorite influencer has ulterior motives…

    • They might hide it well…or it might not be a primary motivator but there’s always something behind the scenes steering at least some small part of what they are saying.

This isn’t to say that what they’re saying is wrong or bad…just a reminder to question it...

If they’re a fitness person and they have “favorite” supplements, keep in mind they might have endorsements. A life coach? Their goal is to help you…and possibly to have you pay them as a coach, right?

When you are engaging, keep this reality in mind. Don’t allow their ulterior motives to influence or change your desires or your definition of success or purpose. Trust me, it’s far, far too easy to do!

(For the record, my ulterior motive is to help others see the world differently and grow…and to become known as an “anti-influencer” that’s so helpful you’ll join/share my community and content with others! ← Full disclosure! 🤓)

  • iii — define your desires…

    • I’m not entirely sure how I’d prove this but I’m fairly certain that the majority of us have desires that are tainted by the influence or desires of people that aren’t close to us.

For instance, social media makes us unhappy with our current rate of change and we desire more speed. Or, we see “wealth” on social and we want more money and rush a career change that ends up making us more miserable than we were before or we spend too much money trying to live the lifestyle we see and make our debt problems worse.

      It’s a pretty ugly cycle.

Break it by defining your desires and ensuring that they are only influenced by the changes, growth, or lifestyle that you want for yourself or those closest to you…Start this process today!
